WHY YOU SHOULD SEE “SON OF GOD”

Movie Review:

Last night, my wife and I went to see the movie, Son of God. Needless to say, it was excellent!

As we walked into the theatre, I asked the man ripping tickets if it was in 3D. He replied, “No, He’s amazing enough all by Himself!

What an incredible comment!” My wife and I remarked to each other. A comment which put us in the right frame of mind to see such a film. Jesus is amazing enough all by Himself!

As far as a review of the film, many have likened it to Passion of the Christ. It is the latest full feature film about Jesus, since Passion. So it was bound to happen. I admit, it was hard for me not to mirror the two films, even as I watched last night.

This being said, the two films film felt vastly different. In particular, I felt that Jesus’ life and who He was to the people was more adequately displayed. His relationship with the religious leaders, His miracles and how He fulfilled Old Testament Scripture were also uniquely captured.

The crucifixion scene was sobering.

And so it should be. As Christ was being tried and beaten, many people in the theatre were weeping. Watching Christ’s sacrifice unfold on the big screen stirred a much-needed humbling and sense of repentance in my heart.

The resurrection was well done (I believe better than the Passion). Specifically, I enjoyed the character of Thomas throughout the film, which came into full form as Jesus addressed his doubting spirit after the resurrection. It brought a smile to my face.

All in All, Son of God put many of my recent thoughts and actions into a more eternal perspective. Even you haven’t seen it yet, you should. It will be a valuable experience.

Just remember, the big screen doesn’t make Jesus any more amazing. “He’s amazing enough all by Himself!
