Why I Love Building a Christmas Playlist My Way

Christmas Music Everywhere

Every December, it feels like Christmas music is everywhere—stores, cafes, and even gas stations. Some folks dread the early arrival of these tunes, wishing they’d wait until just before Christmas Day. Personally, I don’t get it. I start whistling Christmas songs as soon as Halloween is over. My Christmas Playlist starts publically making an appearance right after American Thanksgiving.

A Nostalgic Journey Through Tunes

When I hear Christmas music, it’s like stepping into a time machine. It brings back childhood memories and good times with friends and family. And honestly, the type of music doesn’t matter much to me—it’s the joy and connection it stirs.

A Christmas Playlist, from Polka to Pop-Rock

The other night, a friend laughed when “The Merry Christmas Polka” by the Andrew Sisters played on my playlist. Sure, it’s quirky, but Christmas music is about having fun, dancing, and embracing a little goofiness.

That being said, pop-rock Christmas songs often take the top spots on my playlist. One favourite is, Sean Quigley’s pop-rock rendition of “Little Drummer Boy.” A friend shared it with me a couple of years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Little Drummer Boy, Reimagined

Quigley’s version of “Little Drummer Boy” is powerful, creative, and deeply moving. The music video adds another layer of meaning, making it a must-watch every holiday season. It’s definitely making a return to my playlist this year.

This version was put together by Canadian musician, Sean Quigley. The music video is equally as well done as the song. I’m quite convinced that Quigley’s Christmas tune will show up on my playlist at some point in the next few weeks.

Here’s Quigley’s rendition of “Little Drummer Boy”:

A Celebration of the Season

For me, Christmas music isn’t about trends or rules—it’s about joy, nostalgia, and celebrating the season in a way that feels personal. Whether it’s a quirky polka or a powerful rock ballad, a Christmas playlist brings people together, creating shared moments of laughter and love.

Psalm 100:1-2 – “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!”
