Why Getting Outside is Perfect for Christmas Family Fun
Christmas break has started!
Most of us are spending quality time with family, but what’s the plan? What are you going to do to make some meaningful memories? What will make this year stand out? I believe there’s a simple answer: Christmas family fun in creation.
Why Not Get Outside?
That’s right—get outside! No matter where you live or what the weather’s like, there’s something out there worth experiencing. Sure, there’s Christmas dinner to prepare and gifts to wrap. Maybe you can only spare an hour, but trust me, it’ll be worth it!
Let’s face it: we’ve spent far too many days this year surrounded by industry, technology, meetings, and deadlines. Perhaps we’ve forgotten what it feels like to see something natural—other than the snow in our driveway or the poinsettia on the corner of our desk. Maybe our relationships with God and those around us are starting to feel as mechanical as the conveniences we can’t seem to live without.
It’s Christmas—time to retreat from all that!
The Value of Connecting with God’s Creation
No matter who we are or where we’re from, there’s something powerful about reconnecting with God’s creation. Whether it’s a quiet winter stroll to personally reconnect with the Lord and thank Him for His blessings or a fun outing with family to enjoy His handiwork together, the benefits are undeniable.
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)
For some, it might mean building a snowman, going sledding, having a snowball fight, or making snow angels. For others, like my family, it could mean splashing in puddles if the weather isn’t cooperating. Wherever you are and whatever your climate, there’s a joy to be found outdoors.
The Fireplace Will Still Be There
I get it; the fireplace sounds like a cozy alternative to braving the elements. But here’s the thing: the fireplace will still be there when you get back. And it’ll feel even better after some fresh air and fun!
Getting outside can be a simple way to build relationships, create lasting memories, and experience the wonder of God’s natural world. By stepping away from our routines, we’re reminded of His sovereignty and the beauty of life itself.
“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” (Romans 1:20)
Make Some Creation-Based Memories
Whatever your personal or family plan is today, take the time to incorporate God’s creation into your celebrations ensuring some Christmas family fun. Whether it’s a snowy adventure, a rainy day exploration, or just a quiet walk, you’ll find joy, thanksgiving, and a renewed appreciation for God’s blessings.
