How to Respond to God’s Call
Embrace the Journey
We’ve all been there—minding our own business, letting the world pass by, when suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, a still, small voice stirs within us. God is calling us to move, act, speak, and fulfill a plan or purpose He has set before us. How do we respond to God’s call?
At first, we might try to ignore it, pretending it’s just our mind wandering or a random thought triggered by something that just happened. But deep down, there’s that sinking feeling—the Holy Spirit might be trying to get our attention.
Then the nervous excitement begins. Events from the past start to make sense. The people we’ve met, the places we’ve gone, and the things we’ve done all begin to align in ways we never imagined. You realize God’s plan has been unfolding, and now it’s clear.
It’s exhilarating—and terrifying at the same time!
Recognizing God’s Call to Respond
This has been the experience of many who’ve felt a specific call from God. It might come through Scripture, a prayer, a sermon, a song, or even a poem. However it comes, it’s unmistakable.
Only our denial can hide it, but even then, it comes back, stronger than ever. In those moments, we’re left with a choice: ignore it or respond to God’s call and embrace it.
As Ephesians 2:10 (ESV) reminds us, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
How to Respond to God’s Call
So, what should we do when we respond to God’s call? The best thing is to run! But not away—run towards it. Pursue the call with everything inside you, trusting that God has uniquely prepared this journey for you.
Jeremiah 29:11 (ESV) encourages us with these words: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
