What Does a True Christ-Follower Look Like?
Being a Christian can be rough.
One of the challenges is journeying through seasons of doubt. Not so much doubting whether or not Jesus exists. It’s more like doubting whether or not following Jesus’ example is really worth it. (Yup, I really said that.)
Maybe you don’t have anyone close to encourage you and spur you on. Maybe you don’t have the type of community needed to keep you courageous. Maybe you’re prone to complacency. It’s not easy. Sometimes we might have to stand alone to make a difference.
We’ve all heard the accounts.
Throughout history, there have been many men and women in a variety of circumstances, who have been faced with this test. They’ve been forced to solely depend on Christ for their strength, encouragement and community. When there was no one, they had to turn to the only One left.
We alone have to make the decision based on Christ alone. Jesus never said to follow Peter or Paul, or Pastor Joe from your neighbourhood church. We’re called to follow Him.
I’m sure that lots of people will get to heaven because they believed in Christ. And yet, in this earthly life, we have to make an ongoing choice. We need to choose whether or not we want to be the select few who will buck Christian status and truly follow Him.
It’s tough when you’re down.
It’s tough when you’re alone. Nevertheless, we have to accept that people aren’t the ones who will ultimately pull us through this life. We all know this is the unspoken Christian heavy. Things will get tough if we choose to actually walk His walk.
Thankfully, we can’t spiral down too far. There’s a power that wells up from inside of us, received through the Holy Spirit when we strive to follow Christ.
If you are currently feeling isolated in your faith, then stand tall knowing God is smiling down on you. Nothing that is happening to you right now is a surprise to Him, nor should it be a surprise to you. The fact that you’re in this situation, proves that God knows you can bear the test that is waging war on your heart.
I know it’s tough, but you will overcome it. You’re becoming the reality of a true Christ-follower.

Jesus was a great person, a real revolutionary. This business of following around a guy who is no longer here, sounds foreign. However, being his hands and feet, living out our lives in the spirit of Christ is meaningful. Not because of a golden ticket granting us heaven, but because of how we are transformed when we adhere to the philosophies of one of the spiritual greats, Jesus. He is a wonderful role-model to follow.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts! I love your statement “People appreciate your attempt to shower love on humanity much more than they do your attempt at righteousness.” Couldn’t have said it better myself! Thank you so much for joining the conversation!
