Secret Christian Surprise Strengthened Our Family

How an unexpected gift reminded us to live out our faith and show love to others.

There was a loud bang at the door! We were just about to get our boys into bed for the night. At first, we were all a little scared. I jumped up, I looked out the window! I saw what I determined, was a teenager sprinting down the street.

“What’s going on?” I exclaimed!

I peeked outside and there was a box with this stuffed giraffe on the top looking at me.

“Here we go; some teen couple have left their baby on our doorstep. This is the price you pay for getting to know teens in the community!” (I was serving in student ministries at the time.)

Just before I could step outside to retrieve the box, there was another loud bang at the back door. Really? Twins!

Just kidding.

Secret Christian Kindness in Action

To make a long story short, we soon found out that our family had been selected by a person (or persons) calling themselves “Secret Christian”. We had received two boxes full of snack foods, gift cards, toys for our boys, and a nice card simply signed, “Secret Christian”.

After the shock wore off, my wife exclaimed,

“I thought some teenager left their baby on our doorstep!” (Well, they say, “Great minds think alike.”)

Teaching Moments for Our Boys

In all seriousness, whoever you were, wherever you’re from; we hope you read this post someday.

Know that your random act of kindness did so much for our family. Not only did we receive some amazing gifts, but it assisted us as Christian parents. Of course, the boys were bouncing off the walls like it was Christmas morning. But more than that, we were able to tell our boys the reason why this happened.

“The love that was shown to us tonight comes from the love these people have for Jesus.” I explained. “This is how we show we love Jesus, by helping other people.” (John 13:34-35 ESV)

Especially for our oldest boy, it was an important moment in the development of his faith.

Faith in Action Inspires Others

So, to “Secret Christian”, our family thanks you. May God richly bless you for the overwhelming kindness you have shown our family. May you be an example to us all. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It reminded me of Galatians 6:9 (ESV): “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

Your action was a seed planted in our family. And we’re praying that it grows into more kindness, more faith, and more Christ-like living.

A Lasting Impact

We might never meet you but know that your random act of kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you for blessing our family and showing us what it means to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
