Navigating My Struggle with End Times Theology
Confessing My Journey
As a Christian, I firmly believe that Christ will return, and I eagerly anticipate this incredible event. Christ’s return is a cornerstone of Biblical eschatology, or the study of End Times.
However, many of the other details surrounding eschatology can be interpreted differently, depending on who you might be speaking with.
Wrestling with Different Perspectives on End Times Theology
Even well-studied pastors and preachers disagree on various components such as timelines, people included or excluded, and the series of events. These differences have culminated in multiple beliefs about the End Times, separating certain denominations within the Evangelical Church.
These factors have caused me much concern over the last few years. When I read the book of Revelation for myself, I get one picture. Yet, depending on who I’m speaking with, they see the end in a slightly different conclusion.
Many of them are far more educated than I am, so how do I determine who’s right? I must confess, most of the time, I just avoid the topic of eschatology completely and hope for the best.
“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” – Matthew 24:42 (ESV)
