LONG GONE TO THE YUKON
Some things come sooner than expected.
I remember when Nicole and I made our return to Alberta (from Alaska) to accomplish two things: (1) Bring a rejuvenation effort into a struggling Bible camp, and (2) add some discipleship support to a small church in NW Calgary.
It was a 5 year plan.
After the 5 years, we were to make our permanent move to the Yukon Territory. Our call has been to make Whitehorse our permanent field of harvest for future ministry.
Then God fast-forwarded that plan. On September 3rd, 2014, we began our journey North. On September 15th, I began my new role as Pastor of Community Life & Equipping with Whitehorse Baptist Church. (Which would revitalize into Mountainview Church. But that’s another story.)
At that time, I was called to oversee community groups, outreach projects, and a Bible camp.
For some, this came as a shock.
For my Albertan friends, and colleagues, it was a hard, fast-paced work-load. Both under the banners of Westbourne Baptist Church, and Whispering Pines Bible Camp, we have laboured together through some extremely difficult challenges.
With Christ’s strength, we have stood strong, and persevered.
Therefore, Nicole and I left after the storms had settled, and as relative peace was on the horizon. Westbourne Baptist would be transformed by Village Church, rebranded, and replanted as Village Calgary. Whispering Pines entered into a new time of growth and continues to this day.
We left on positive terms.
Admittedly, it was strange to some, as to why we would move on after only 2 years of ministry service. The tendency might have been to wonder if there was something more to the story.
I assure you, there was not. I am, and will continue to be friends with the staff, Elders, and Deacons at Westbourne Baptist (and Village Church); as well as all the staff, and Board members under the Whispering Pines flag.
These men and women are amazing people! They serve with a desperation to see people come to know Jesus, and in turn, a life-long pursuit of Him. If you’re in Southern Alberta, you should definitely connect with some of these folks.
Moving forward.
