Levi the Poet Shares the Christmas Story Like Never Before

Introducing “Memories” by “Levi The Poet

Before you scroll down to watch the video, I encourage you to read through this post first. Levi the Poet offers a truly unique expression of the Christmas story, but I feel it’s important to share a couple of thoughts before you dive in.

A Unique Style That May Surprise You

First Warning: Levi the Poet has a look that might be shocking to some. With a black outfit, shaved head, bull-ring nose piercing, and large earplugs, his raw appearance may feel off-putting at first glance.

As a teenager who loved punk rock, I’ve had my share of unconventional fashion choices. And after years of pastoral work, including youth and college ministry, I’ve seen plenty of edgy styles. Nevertheless, even I was a little taken aback by Levi’s overall image.

Second Warning: The first minute or two of the video might be challenging. Levi begins by singing (not exactly on key) which almost made me stop watching. But I urge you to keep going because once he transitions into spoken word. I promise that the flow and clarity of his storytelling are captivating.

A Poetic Journey Through the Christmas Story

If you push past these initial hurdles, you’ll likely find yourself pulled into Levi’s storytelling. Around the three-minute mark, I experienced chills as he masterfully connected the nativity story to the Cross.

Levi draws parallels between John the Baptist’s role and his own as a poet. They’re both strange voices crying out about the coming of the Messiah. His dramatic spoken word paints a vivid picture of how the Child we celebrate at Christmas is also the Savior who redeems us.

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

A Call to Worship

Levi’s words led me to reflect deeply on the connection between the birth of Christ and His sacrifice on the Cross. This dramatic performance stirred my heart to worship. I imagine it will do the same for you as you watch this video.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Final Thoughts

Levi the Poet’s performance isn’t for everyone. However, I believe his words will resonate deeply with those willing to engage. His edgy style and intense delivery might stretch your comfort zone. And yet, they also bring fresh life to the Christmas story.
