Joshua’s 3 Leadership Qualities That Inspire Greatness
Three Qualities To Follow
In the Bible, we find an incredible leader named Joshua. His leadership and qualities have been studied repeatedly by those seeking to improve their own abilities. Maybe you’re unfamiliar with Joshua’s leadership qualities and are wondering, “What made Joshua such a great leader?” Or perhaps you’re familiar with his story but are curious about how you might mirror Joshua’s leadership qualities in your day-to-day life.
In my opinion, three important qualities stand out that made Joshua a great leader. Let’s dive into these qualities and explore how they can inspire us today.
1. Bravery (Numbers 13-14)
Joshua’s leadership qualities were first demonstrated through his bravery. As one of the 12 spies sent to survey the Promised Land, Joshua saw the same threats as everyone else. While ten spies were fearful, Joshua and Caleb displayed courage, trusting that God would fulfill His promises.
“Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection is removed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them.” (Numbers 14:9, ESV)
A great leader confronts adversity with courage, and Joshua exemplified this by facing the challenges ahead with trust in God. Whether facing a difficult decision at work or a personal obstacle, bravery rooted in faith helps us lead with confidence.
2. Integrity (Joshua 6)
Another crucial aspect of Joshua’s leadership qualities was his unwavering integrity. Joshua followed God’s instructions precisely, particularly during pivotal moments like the battle of Jericho. He didn’t waver, cut corners, or try to reinterpret God’s orders. His adherence to God’s commands was well-known across the land.
“So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame was in all the land.” (Joshua 6:27, ESV)
Joshua’s commitment to following God’s directives teaches us that integrity is the foundation of great leadership. In our own lives, whether managing a project or navigating personal relationships, integrity builds trust and respect, which are essential for effective leadership.
3. Faith (Joshua 24)
Faith was the cornerstone of Joshua’s leadership qualities. He firmly believed in God’s promises and remained faithful until the end of his life. Even in his final days, Joshua urged the Israelites to remain faithful to the Lord, demonstrating that his trust in God never wavered.
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15, ESV)
Joshua understood that leadership is rooted in faith. A great leader not only makes decisions but also trusts God with the outcomes. Joshua’s life reminds us that leading with faith inspires others and brings assurance that God is in control.

The greatest leaders are those who look to God for direction and then when they hear from Him, obey His commands. Joshua was like David, a man after God’s heart and also wanted to follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Moses. Being obedient to God’s commands opens the door of great opportunity and influence.
Too right! Looking to God for direction is the only way to live and walk through through the trials of this world. Thanks for giving us a couple of more examples of great Biblical leaders!
