HOW WE SHOULD RESPOND WHEN THE PRESSURE’S RISING

And how we shouldn’t respond.

We’ve all been there. Those moments in life that become tough lessons.

They usually start when we feel boxed in, or maybe we feel like we’ve been wronged in some way. Then our back gets up against the wall and the pressure starts rising, and we getting defensive.

Intellectually, we know that we should depend on God’s guidance throughout these situations. Furthermore, we know that times of pressure are opportunities for growth. (Rom. 5:35)

Nevertheless, when we’re in the thick of it, we move from intellectual to emotional. And if it gets really bad, we totally abandon everything we know to be true.

Thankfully, we are works in progress (Phil. 1:6) and these times of pressure and perceived attack will be beneficial in the long run. We need to grip tightly to Jesus’ words in Matthew 5.

If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.” (Matt. 5:39b-42)

Regardless of the wrong being done or the apparent assault on our work, ministry or character, we should strive to respond in a Christ-like manner. After all, we’re in this together!
