HOW TO USE DOWNTIME TO PRAY FOR PAST RELATIONSHIPS
How do you use your downtime?
When we get some downtime, we let our mind wander and quite often reflect on past experiences. As we think back to those experiences, they almost always include past relationships.
At that moment, we might consider the people who God has used to shape us into the person we are today. We wonder where they are and what new experiences they’re taking on. Yet, how often do we pray for those we remember?
In Philippians 1, Paul writes,
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (1:3-6
It’s one thing to think back fondly on the people who have helped us along the way. It’s an entirely different state of mind when our memories of those people bring us before our Lord; thanking God for them and perhaps, petitioning on their behalf.
If you have the time this morning, read through Philippians 1. Pay careful attention to the prayerful words that Paul lays out within this passage.
As you go to prayer, let God guide your thoughts to the people of your past. As each face is brought to mind, bring them before the Lord, remembering what they have meant to you and thanking God for them.
Lastly, perhaps, have your calendar ready, in case God moves you to make an appointment to contact someone from your past.
