How to Full Experience Joy this Christmas
The Joy We Crave This Christmas
The shepherds experienced incredible joy when they heard the good news of the Messiah’s arrival. But here’s an amazing truth: that same joy is available today when we encounter Jesus as our Savior. If we can centre on Him we’ll experience a deeper level of joy this Christmas.
The Joy of Belonging to the Good Shepherd
When we receive the Gospel and accept its message, we become sheep under the care of the Good Shepherd. Jesus’ words in John 10 capture this beautifully:
“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.” (John 10:14-16)
The Good Shepherd knows each of us deeply and personally. He sacrificed His life to bring us into His fold, ensuring our eternal security in Him. That knowledge alone should fill us with joy that surpasses understanding.
Reflecting on Your Moment of Joy this Christmas
When was the moment you first heard the Good Shepherd’s voice? Maybe it was during a quiet time of prayer, through a sermon that spoke directly to your heart, or during a life-changing conversation.
Think back to that moment. Let it sink in. The joy of salvation is unlike anything else. It’s the deep assurance that you are known, loved, and eternally secure in Christ.
How the Good Shepherd’s Voice Transforms Us
Hearing the Good Shepherd’s voice doesn’t just bring joy—it changes everything about us. It reshapes our desires, influences our habits, and redefines our goals. Our relationships and aspirations are all touched by His love.
When we belong to Jesus, our identity is secure, and that joy becomes a wellspring of hope that carries us through every challenge life may bring.
