How God Provides the Way, the Wisdom, and the Words
When God Provides Courage to Speak Up
Have you ever been in a situation where you knew you needed to speak up, but fear held you back? Maybe you were worried about saying the wrong thing or the emotional weight made you hesitate. It’s a moment we all face at some point, and it’s hard to know what to do. That’s the moment when God provides.
This feeling isn’t new. It’s exactly what Moses experienced when God called him to speak up in a big way. God isn’t looking for perfect people to speak on His behalf—He chooses those who seem unqualified, just like Moses. Moses wasn’t just hesitant; he had plenty of excuses. And yet, God didn’t leave him hanging.
God provided the way forward, the wisdom to guide him, and words to say.
God Provides the Way Forward
The calling of Moses is more than just an inspiring story; it’s a glimpse into how God works when He calls us.
In Exodus 3, God says to Moses, “Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt” (Exodus 3:10, ESV).
But God didn’t just call Moses and leave him to figure it all out. He provided a plan and a promise of His presence.
God Provides Wisdom for the Journey
One of the most comforting parts of this story is how God reassures Moses:
“I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12, ESV).
This wasn’t a vague promise—it was an assurance that Moses wouldn’t walk this journey alone. God was with him, guiding him, and giving him divine wisdom. When God calls us to speak up, it’s not about having all the answers or being an eloquent speaker. It’s about trusting in God’s wisdom to lead us.
Just like Moses, we might not feel equipped, but God’s presence is the game-changer. He gives us the wisdom and courage to step out in faith.
God Provides the Words to Speak
Moses wasn’t just worried about the plan; he was anxious about what to say.
He asked God, “What shall I say to them?” And God replied, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you’” (Exodus 3:13-14, ESV).
In giving Moses His name, “I AM,” God provided the ultimate source of authority and assurance. This same principle applies to us today. When God calls us to speak, whether it’s in our families, at work, or with friends, He provides the words.
This continued through the Scripture and continued through Jesus as He taught His disciples. Jesus encouraged them in Luke 12:11-12 not to worry about what to say.
“the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say” (ESV).
That’s a powerful promise! And after Jesus’ resurrection, before His ascension to heaven, He gave us the seal of the Holy Spirit, referring to Him as our “Helper” (John 14:26). In this more fulfilled time, the Spirit gives us the help we need to speak words of truth.
Trust That God Will Provide for Every Situation
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Moses’ story, it’s this: God doesn’t just call us and leave us to figure things out. God provides the way, the wisdom and the words to speak.
When we feel inadequate or unqualified, it’s God’s power and guidance that make all the difference. Maybe God is calling you to have a hard conversation with a family member, address an injustice, or share your faith with a friend. Remember, you’re not alone in this. God is with you, and He will equip you with everything you need.
