HOW FOCUS ON JESUS OFTEN LEADS TO TAKING ACTION
Should I wait or take action?
There are times in our lives where patience is required, and waiting on the Lord’s guidance is the wise decision. However, there are also times where immediate action is required.
Especially when it comes down to showing our commitment to the Lord.
In the last chapter of John, we find my favourite biblical account, where Peter can’t help but jump into action. This characteristic showed his devotion to Jesus and made him the right leader for the church to be founded on.
As soon as John speaks the words “It is the Lord,“ Peter automatically leaps into action. Peter throws on his outer garment, jumps out of the boat and begins to swim to shore.
Sure, the boat could have made it just fine. Nevertheless, Peter knew that by swimming, he’d be face-to-face with his Lord that much sooner.
So many times, we play it safe.
Though we know action needs to take place, we tell ourselves, “It’ll be uncomfortable! We might get hurt! It’s not our regular game plan!“
Does any of that really matter? If you’ve been at a standstill over a particular topic or issue for this long; will it really feel any different tomorrow? Next week? A year from now?
It might just be time for action!
Take some time to read through John 21. Is today the day that you do something Peter-like? Maybe you’ve been seeing or hearing the Lord in a certain direction, but you’ve been holding off on making your move.
Spend some quiet reflection time in prayer. Then it’s time to grab your coat and jump, run, act, speak, do, whatever it is that you are being called to.Choose to act and then start moving forward.
