How Booking a Missionary Speaker Brings New Perspective To Your Student Ministry
Posted September 15, 2011
Over the past month, we’ve been focusing on evangelism and witnessing in our youth ministry. As we thought through our Middle School lesson plan earlier in the week, we received a call wondering if we wanted a guest speaker.
It was a couple of missionaries from Mexico, Pastor Don Nagle and Pastor Ramon Ross Rubio, with Northern Lights Ministries. They were visiting Alaska and were willing to speak to our students about their mission work.
Nothing fits better into evangelism like missions!
We gladly welcomed them! We started off with this week’s music video, “Go” by Hillsong United, to get the students settled and hopefully, somewhat focused. Then after a brief introduction of our guest speaker, Pastor Ramon began his message.
Though his English was laboured a bit, he did an excellent job communicating with our students. He had a really great interactive Spanish lesson, related to a Mexican parable. Following that, hepulled us into his text from the book of Acts and added in a few great testimonies from his work in Mexico.
The students were hanging on to every word!
I was impressed at how well they listened to him compared to how they listened to me. (I guess that’s okay considering he’s a guest!)
To close, he gave a clear and thought-provoking Gospel presentation for those who did not know Christ. And yet, a clear call to action for those who did. The students were definitely listening and I am confident that Pastor Ramon’s message was taken home in the hearts of our students.
All-in-all, a great night!
