HOW A SOCCER THEMED COOKIE MADE MY DAY

Today I want to write about cookies.

I want to write about cookies from Starbucks. I know, Canadian readers; typically the Norton family is a Tim Horton’s family.

Nevertheless, Starbucks was on the way.

We originally went in to grab a couple of coffees for my wife and I. While Nicole took our 2 boys to the bathroom, I put in the coffee order.

Then I saw these cookies.

Not just any cookies, but sugar cookies. Not just sugar cookies, but sugar cookies, dipped in chocolate, then designed as a soccer ball.

My boys would love these.

This Spring, I have been coaching soccer for both of my boys’ teams. This and the World Cup means that soccer has taken centre stage at the Norton home for the past couple of weeks.

I ordered up 2 of them in separate bags to go.

That’s when it hit me.

I couldn’t help but think of our Heavenly Father and the following passage:

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Mt. 7:9-11)

Our Father knows us better than we know ourselves. He loves us more than we can imagine. He might just surprise us with a gift that we haven’t even asked for, but He knows we’ll love it.

I know my boys and I love them.

Within seconds of seeing those cookies, I knew they would bring my boys so much joy.

My wife’s a pretty health-conscience mom, so we don’t have cookies in our house. The boys don’t get them often. Which made this even more special.

Their faces made my day.

Once we got back in the car, I passed the boys a bag each. I couldn’t help but smile when I heard our oldest exclaim, “Oh my goodness!

The youngest just got right to business.
