Holding On to God’s Faithfulness

Happy New Year!

What happened this past year? Is there anything worth remembering? Are any highlights worth talking about? How will you remember God’s Faithfulness?

Every day, something reminds us of a past event—whether it happened earlier this week or way back in childhood. For believers, some of the best memories come from seeing God’s faithfulness in our lives. Those moments when He carried us through trials or provided exactly what we needed.

Marking the Moments of God’s Faithfulness

Shouldn’t we do something to help us remember those times? Something to bring them to mind when life gets tough? Something to pass down to the next generation?

In Scripture, Joshua was a man of faith and courage. He never doubted that God would fulfill His promises. And through many trials, God gave Joshua and the Israelites some incredible moments worth remembering.

A Memorial of God’s Faithfulness

In Joshua 3, we read how God miraculously led Israel through the Jordan River. Then, in Joshua 4, God gave Joshua an instruction:

“Take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan… put them down at the place where you stay tonight.” (Joshua 4:2-3, ESV)

“These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” (Joshua 4:7, ESV)

The stones served as a physical reminder of what God had done. A way to look back and tell the next generation about His faithfulness.

Your Reminder of God’s Faithfulness

Maybe God hasn’t stopped a raging river for you. But He has brought you through something this past year. A challenge. A trial. A season of waiting.

How will you remember that moment? Will it be through a journal entry, a photo, a blog post? Maybe a meaningful object or a specific verse that reminds you of His faithfulness?

Reflecting on God’s Faithfulness

Take some time today. Read through Joshua 3 and 4. Trust me, it’s an exciting account that will start your day with encouragement. Then, reflect on the past year.

What trial did God help you overcome? What difficulty did He give you the strength to endure?

Spend some time in prayer, thanking Him for His faithfulness. Then, consider creating your own memorial—something to remind you of His provision and to share with others.
