GOING BACK TO 1995

In The Light” by DC Talk

Going Back to 1995
http://www.dctalk.com

Since we’ve already mentioned the 90’s this week, I’d like to bring us back to 1995.

20 years ago, three men in a group called DC Talk wrote a song based on our key verse from this morning, 1 John 1:7, titled “In The Light”. This song immediately grew in popularity, speaking to the hearts of Christians all over the world.

The song rose to and remained in the Christian Top-Ten for months. And since then, dozens of Christian artists have performed and recorded this song in a variety of styles and genres.

Part of the reason for the song’s success is because of the very personal nature in which it was written. The descriptions found in the lyrics are not written from a corporate voice of the church.

Instead, it was written the way 1 John 1:7 was intended; focused on an individual begging to be moved out of darkness and back into the light of Jesus Christ.

Our Resource

Below this post, I’ve included the song lyrics and a YouTube clip. This might not be your preferred jam, but my prayer is that this song (or at least the lyrics) will help us come back to our key point from this past week of posts, regarding Our Resource.

Whatever sin, whatever struggle, whatever shame, whatever area of darkness that may be preventing the church from achieving the next level of excellence ion communication; may we bring it before our Saviour today. May we come back to Our Resource.

May we exit the darkness of sin and struggle, and once more, individually and corporately, bask in the light of Jesus Christ.

In The Light” Lyrics

I keep trying to find a life, On my own, apart from You
I am the king of excuses, I’ve got one for every selfish thing I do
What’s going on inside of me? I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions, That I’m still a man in need of a Savior

I wanna be in the Light, As You are in the Light
I wanna shine like the stars in the heavens
Oh, Lord be my Light and be my salvation
Cause all I want is to be in the Light
All I want is to be in the Light

The disease of self runs through my blood, It’s a cancer fatal to my soul
Every attempt on my behalf has failed, To bring this sickness under control
Tell me, what’s going on inside of me? I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions, That I’m still a man in need of a Savior

Honesty becomes me (There’s nothing left to lose)
The secrets that did run me (In Your presence are defused)
Pride has no position (And riches have no worth)
The fame that once did cover me (Has been sentenced to this Earth)
Has been sentenced to this Earth

Tell me, what’s going on inside of me? I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions, That I’m still a man in need of a Savior
There’s no other place that I want to be, No other place that I can see
A place to be that’s just right, Someday I’m gonna be in the Light
You are in the Light, That’s where I need to be, That’s right where I need to be
