CONSIDER THE COST
Communicating With Our World: Part 3
Yesterday, we considered compassion. This morning, we Consider the Cost as we strive to communicate with our world. Going back to our key verse, John 3:16, we see that “…God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son…”
We read in the Old Testament that for centuries, mankind tirelessly strived for righteousness through strict observance of the Law. Subsequently, the necessity for numerous sacrifices.
Each sacrifice atoning for the sins they and/or their family had committed, in order to maintain a relationship with God. Then God unveiled the fulfillment of His sacrificial plan, that a Man would be sacrificed for all of mankind.
And yet, it would have to be a perfect sacrifice, so as well as being fully human, that Man would also have to be fully God.
A Father’s Heart
I have heard some heartless theological opinions: “Well, the Father knew the end of the story. The Father knew His Son would conquer death and rise again.”
Well so did Jesus! Did Jesus’ knowledge of His own death make the cross any less painful for Him? When the Father turned away from His Son, allowing sin and death to take Him, did the knowledge of the outcome make it any less painful for either of them?
We must remember, that the same God who created us, also created the parent-child relationship. The Father loved us so much that He considered the cost of His one and only Son worth it.
The cost of all that pain and heartache was worth it for you and me.
We Should Consider the Cost
We too should Consider the Cost when we communicate with our world. It should be no surprise to us, that God may require our time, our service and our money to effectively communicate with our world.
For those of us who are member of a local church, we all have missionaries that need our support. There’s likely a few outreach and evangelism projects on the horizon. These missions and ministries are going to cost us something.
Each year, our local churches vote on budgets. Each church must decide what percentage it’s willing to part with in order to reach this world.
As individuals, what percentage of our time, our service and our money are we willing to give to Him? There was a cost to save our world and there’s a cost to effectively communicating with our world.
