5 QUESTIONS TO ESTABLISH TEAM CONSISTENCY AND INTEGRITY

Time To Evaluate Your Team?

A team is only as good as the team member’s individual standard of consistency and integrity.

This standard of consistency and integrity should be easy to spot within our team’s behaviour. By taking some careful reflection and asking ourselves some key questions, we’ll come to some clear conclusions.

Note, though these questions are directed into a church or ministry context, they can easily be adjusted to focus on any team.

And WARNING: These questions could be potentially damaging to any leader who is not willing to first ask them in self reflection first. Before reflecting on a team member’s position or performance.

1. Selfishness

Do I have a team member who often acts in a selfish manner, concerned more with their areas of service then the overall ministry work?

2. Half-Truths

Do I have a team member who is often caught in half-truths, in order to see their opinions heard or their ministry plans fulfilled?

3. Late Or Disorganised

Do I have a team member who is chronically late and/or disorganised, carrying a hap-hazard disposition for the work of the ministry?

4. Work Over People

Do I have a team member who tends to act like the work of the ministry takes precedence over the people within the ministry?

5. All Talk

Do I have a team member who spends more time talking about what the team needs to do, instead of what God will do within the team?

Consistency & Integrity

Most questions regarding consistency and integrity, will ultimately address problems of the heart, more than behavioural problems.

Depending on the answers we establish from these questions, we may have to come to some tough conclusions. A team member in our ministry may be having a major struggle within their personal walk with the Lord, and therefore causing the team to struggle.

As pastors and ministry leaders, it is our responsibility to bring our team back to health. Even if that means losing a team member.

Bringing It Home

To end on a more positive note, steadfast consistency and integrity within ones behaviour, will more times than not, show a team member with a healthy heart.

Obviously, we shouldn’t be looking for perfection. Keep in mind, just like us, our team members will make mistakes and go through tough times.

That considered, we should focus on whether or not our team members are having inconstant or potentially damaging patterns in their lives; not just intermittent struggles.

By consistently building our team up, challenging them to be consistent and have integrity, by holding them accountable in the their service and personal walk with the Lord; we’ll be on our way to building a healthy team.
