4 QUESTIONS TO TURN A LIFE OF ROUTINE INTO A LIFE OF MISSION
It’s easy for life to become routine.
It’s easy to let each day pass like the next. We complete assignments, answer emails, plan new projects; waiting for the weekend to arrive. However, the routine has the potential to weaken our defences against sin, soften our desire to share the Gospel, and prevent us from seeking opportunities to show Christ’s love.
As Christians, we should find a higher calling than our weekly routine. In 1 Corinthians 16, we read: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.“ (16:13-14)
Any person can live out their days, moving through life as each day comes. It takes effort to be on guard against temptation, to stand firm in the faith, and be courageous in sharing the Gospel. It takes even more effort to do everything in love.
This isn’t an average person’s daily routine.
Good work ethic can be proven through oversight over particular areas. Perhaps, we have completed a task or project with excellence. Perhaps, we are generally competent and trustworthy, and therefore people follow us. However, the Believer should be motivated toward a higher standard than simply having a good work ethic.
We should people who are brave and steadfast in our faith and love. Each and every day, the people around us should see a difference in us, by the way, we act and speak. We should take a hard look at these two verses in 1 Corinthians 16.
Prayerfully consider the following questions:
- Am I on guard against temptation?
- Am I standing firm in my faith?
- Am I courageous and strong in my convictions?
- Am I doing everything in love?
These 4 questions turn our life of routine into a life of mission.
I am definitely not saying that I have arrived, nor am I saying that these 4 questions are easy to tackle. Though they will take a lifetime for us to master, these questions promise to drive us past simple routines.
