Who Can Really Be Against Us If God Is For US?

Too often, we neglect this biblical principle!

Reading through Romans, I find myself drawn into the last half of chapter eight. I am specifically moved by the following scriptural promise:

“If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all–how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?”

Romans 8:31b-32

So many times we neglect this Biblical truth. We get run down and overwhelmed with the minor details of life, yet, do we pray? Do we make our every request known to the God who gave His only Son to death because of His love and joy for us!

Have you prayed today?

If you’re feeling closed in, try making a list. Write down what causes your pain and strife, then bow your head and give it over to our heavenly Father. Maybe you’re thinking, “A list? Where do I start? God can’t help me! Not with what I’m goin’ through!”

Before you settle into this excuse for not giving God what your heart holds, read further into Romans 8.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famines or nakedness or danger or sword…No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Romans 8:35 & 37

You see, through His love and gracious sacrifice, you have all availability and a promise that He will listen. So, even if your list includes trouble, hardship, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger, and sword; you can still give that list up to God in prayer.

As I conclude this post…

I can’t help but share a small memory from my younger years. This concept of being “more than conquerors” reminds me of a Christian Punk Rock band named Dogwood, that I followed during my teen and young adult years. They released an album titled “More Than Conquerors“, and the title track held the following lyrics:

“We have a certain calling to rise above the rest.
Even when our human nature says we’re not the best.
And when trials and tribulations can put you to the test.
God is for us.  None’s against us.”

May these lyrics (based on Romans 8) hold true in your life today.
